Mother Arrested For Leaving Kids 2, 3, 5 And 6 home while she went to Walmart

Well, I guess its a sign of the times. My mother and other mothers in our middle class neighborhood would leave us home and just ask the neighbor to look in on us. If something happened, we knew to go next door. The neighbors house was like our house and her kids felt our house was there home away from home. Instead of the neighbor complaining about her leaving, why not offer to check in on the kids until the mother got back, if she was so concerned about them? Maybe she was using the money to buy things for the kids that they needed. Has anyone tried to take 4 kids into Walmart? Or any store for that matter. I am not condoning her actions, but I am just saying instead of judging her, maybe someone should be trying to extend a helping hand.

I have a few things to say about the reply comments, 1- why does it matter where the father/s are it's apparent he wasn't there with the children and he wasn't out shopping with her, 2. @parks- My mother left us home to go out shopping and we knew better to get out of that bed maybe an older sibling was home with us and maybe they were with her I can't really remember but I knew not to play with my mom like that.. Maybe she ran out to get some milk and cereal for the children. struggling to get through college and take care of 2 kids I would have my cousin meet me in the morning since we lived on the same bus route and I would give him my bus fare card to go get my children after school I would walk to his mother's house meet up with him get my fare card back and take the next bus up to my place now my children were left alone for roughly 20mins ages 10-6 does this make me a bad parent for leaving my children by themselves for the mins it took me to get back home? Someone decided to call the police on me oneday and it was my neighbor who came to my rescue when they were going to take my children into protective custody she didn't tell the police that I was out running the streets she told them I went to the store and I asked her to keep an eye on them. THIS IS WHAT GOOD NEIGHBORS DO, Not be mean and spiteful and call the police on this mom... SMH at people today

@Jacqueline And thats what I am talking about. Neighbors in the struggle together to make it better for everyone. If I know you got my back, then I will have your back too. Kids being raised up in the system helps no one, except those who profit from keeping people locked up. Man, I really miss the days when we had NEIGHBORHOODS where people tried to help you instead of bring you down.

no i have not, and i understand what you mean about being in CPS...the horrible things that go on there may scar a child for life. but, if this woman is ridiculous enough to leave her *children (helping you out a little with your error) alone at home, who knows what other neglectful things may be going on in her home. we can't be 100% sure they ARE better off with their mother. it may seem like a small issue, but it could be a glimpse into what else this woman is doing wrong as a mother.

Like Monica said, who knows what else is going on in her home if she thinks leaving children, ages 2-6, home alone is okay? If they investigate and find that she's capable (enough), she'll be given her kids back. I, for one, will be praying that she never does such an idiotic thing ever again. I'm thankful that CPS didn't get involved because of something terrible happening while she was gone. When it comes to the safety of children, you should always err on the side of caution.

Monica I'm sorry but I have to agree with her... I hate people that judge the way that you are judging now... You are not perfect and you really don't know what her situation is. Yeah she may be wrong for leaving them at home but maybe she thought she would be right back. Maybe she thought they were fast asleep and didn't want to wake them just to go to the store whatever the fucking case... Things need to be a lot more serious then this for a child to be taken away from their parent.

Maybe this happened as an isolated incident... It can be extremely challenging dealing with several small children... So she quickly ran up the street to get the kids some things they needed.. Neighbor could have checked in on them, and then talked with her about it...

@Shannon, that is how it is supposed to happen.... they investigate, find her capable and return the kids. It rarely works that way. People that shouldn't have the kids, keep them. Those that should have their kids, fight years to get them back. I grew up in the system and leaving them alone while they were asleep? They didn't say they found the house in squalid conditions or marks on the kids. They are better off with her.

And I say they are better off with her because if something happens, the state can step in. If something happens to them while in the custody of the state, there is no one to help them. There is supposed to be and they say there is, but there isn't.

Sad and very misguided. I am glad to know she didn't go to the club, she probably just had no one to lean on. (Thank God for my Mom every day) and made a terrible judgement call. She could have bundled up those kids, called a cab and plopped them in the shopping cart while she shopped. Hope she was getting groceries and clothes for the kids and I hope that they put her in a parenting class to help her make better choices. We have one in our area called "mentoring moms" and they do good work with young misguided moms like this.

WELL, ONE OF MY FOSTER CHILD HAD BEEN IN THE SYSTEM EVERY SINCE SHE WAS 2YRS OLD, AND HAVE BEEN PLACED IN MAYBE A DOZEN FOSTER FACILLITY BEFORE I GOT HER.SHE HAD BEEN GIVEN TO A WOMAN WHO HAD NO INTENTIONS ON LOVING HER BUT FOR HER(THE CHILD) TO BE A LOVER FOR HER HUSBAND, SHE WAS MENTALLY AND FISCALLY ABUSED FROM THE MIND.
