If you watched the movie the issue was not that he couldn't fit on there with her, but the issue was twofold....one it would have sunk, which would have defeated the purpose, and the other issue was they were not able to keep it steady enough for him to even get on it.......

As much salt is in that water, it would not have sunk. The ship was in the Atlantic Ocean. Oceans are salt water so its more dense. Now had this been a river which some are fresh water then yea it would have been believable.
