Can someone explain how this works? It's seems as though the colour image is actually behind the white pane and concentrating on the yellow dot focuses your vision more closely to reveal the underlying image but really I'm guessing because it moves around the pane with your gaze. Nonetheless, amazing.

It's like a photo negative, where the colors are the opposite of what shows up in the finished picture. In this case, staring long enough makes the colour receptors get "tired" of seeing blue and white, so the opposite colours show up when you look away. I'm no expert but that's what I've heard. Hope this was somewhat explanatory. :)
